WHAT COUPLES FIGHT OVER MOST WHEN SHOPPING FOR A HOME
According to a lender that works with real estate investors, LendingHome, when surveying more than 1,000 respondents that presently don’t own a home, couples stress-out and come unraveled over four main topics.
In order of disagreement:
- The price of the home (53%)
- The location of the home (29%)
- The condition of the home (29%)
- The size or style of the home (18%)
In addition, for women, the top disagreement was over the price; for men, it was about the condition of the home (60% of men wanted a home they could work on and improve, while their partners wanted a brand new home)
Having numerous conversation beforehand and setting boundaries for these topics can help minimize tension once you start looking for a home.
Check in with each other often, for as you view properties, your thoughts and levels of importance may change.
- Almost 80% of the respondents in a relationship said that making the purchase with their partner was very important.
- 91% said they discussed and created a budget with their partner
- 32% said they spent up to two years saving to buy a home with their partner
